770-609-1247 | Men’s and Father’s Divorce & Family Law Issues – Georgia Lawyers & Attorneys

Divorce is not an easy process to go through for either party, but that doesn’t mean there are not specific issues men and fathers struggle with. Generally, men hold greater responsibility in maintaining family matters. So when a divorce splits a couple or family, the male figure must not only regain his own identity after being tied to a union, but must also figure out how to handle everything the couple has built together since then, which could include children, businesses, financial decisions like alimony, or property decisions like property division.

A common difficulty men face during or after a divorce is how to cope filling in the gap a marriage once fulfilled without resorting to easy-fix often self-destructive ways. Because a period of grief, disappointment, or dissatisfaction usually follows the end of a marriage, men can turn to other sources of happiness impulsively and abuse them to ease any pain that may still linger after the divorce. However, this self-indulgent behavior may often spiral their depression even further because their self-respect or ego has not been built with a healthy, long-lasting foundation.

Another difficulty fathers can face is how to continue a healthy relationship with his children while maintaining a separate and minimum relationship with his previous spouse. Because the two are very intertwined, issues like child custody and child support can provide legal solutions but actually living out the agreement can be much more difficult depending on how emotionally attached the father is to the children. Also, because the children can be accustomed to interacting with two authoritative figures, the children might have difficulty adjusting to a new lifestyle after the parents’ separation which can create complications for the father as well.
