Georgia Divorce – Alimony From a Man’s Perspective

Alimony from a male’s perspective

Men can seek alimony for the same reasons that women do, and that is to reap the benefits for sacrificing their own careers so that their spouses could build theirs. More and more women are now working full-time and making the social preconception of a man as the automatic default money-maker of the household a standard of the past. As a result, more and more men are seeking alimony, an act that might have been seen as somewhat uncommon previously.

Men can also seek alimony as another method of figuring out a better divorce settlement agreement. They might agree to divide property or other valuables differently if it means that one won’t have to pay a monthly check to the other for an extended period of time. In other words, men can use alimony as a powerful incentive to settle on other conditions to their advantage as well.

Another thought men should keep in consideration is that alimony is often awarded based on how both parties had behaved in the marriage and/or family context prior to the divorce. Men can seek alimony on the grounds that the other spouse had a direct negative impact on his finances and lifestyle that he should be rightfully compensated for. However, men are equally responsible for their own conduct during the union as well. If they are responsible for the breakdown of the marriage, then typically judges do not find the alimony request justifiable.
